PROBLEM STATEMENT

Students seeking to study overseas often encounter challenges when selecting the right institution. Due to a lack of knowledge about foreign locations and institutions, many students resort to using middlemen to facilitate their study abroad journey. However, this approach often leads to suboptimal choices and a lack of control over their educational path.

Key Challenges:

  • Limited Information: Students lack comprehensive information about various overseas study destinations and institutions, making it difficult to make informed decisions.

  • Overreliance on Middlemen: Due to their limited knowledge, many students rely on middlemen who may not prioritize their best interests and preferences.

  • Inefficient Decision-Making: The absence of a streamlined and reliable process for selecting institutions leads to inefficiencies and suboptimal choices for students.

  • Lack of Control: Students often feel disempowered in shaping their educational path and selecting the best-fit institution that aligns with their goals and aspirations.

Addressing these challenges is crucial to empower students to make well-informed decisions about their overseas education, enhancing their overall experience and outcomes

VISION STATEMENT

Build a responsive website that can provide more information about institutions in different countries to graduates, so that they can get to know relevant institutions early and prepare for them.

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Students (around 16 – 19 years old) who graduated from secondary school in Hong Kong and Mainland China

PERSONA

  • Well-Planner: Well-Planners are students who meticulously plan their overseas education journey well in advance. They prioritize research, organization, and preparation. Well-Planners seek detailed information about institutions, courses, admission requirements, and scholarship opportunities. They value a user-friendly platform for comprehensive research.

  • Entertainer: Entertainers are students who approach studying abroad with a sense of adventure and enthusiasm. They are open to spontaneity and exploring new experiences. Entertainers are interested in vibrant and culturally diverse destinations. They seek information about the social and cultural aspects of studying abroad, including nightlife, events, and recreational opportunities.

  • Last-Minutes: Last-Minutes are students who decide to study abroad relatively late in the application process. They often have limited time for research and preparation.Last-Minutes require quick access to key information such as application deadlines, visa procedures, and available courses. They value a platform that offers concise, time-sensitive details.

Understanding these distinct user personas allows us to tailor our platform to cater to their specific needs and preferences, enhancing the overall user experience.

Each type of user also being common in our daily life, so we need to hint at all of their needs and wants on this website.

  • Research – Empathis with end user, hosting interview and participatory workshop
  • Ideation – Generate wireframe & analyzing data from research

RESEARCH

Since we found out there are three types of students who will plan to study overseas in our research and survey, so we ask for some graduated students who had expensive to study oversea and join our participatory workshop.

From this participatory workshop, we aim to find out that

  • What fresh insights can they provide?
  • What are the things that students who want to study abroad should be aware of?
  • What do they think a school search engine might look like or need based on their experiences?

And after the aim is planned, we also plan the whole participate workshop.

We arrange card sorting section in the workshop, which are let us know more about how and what it the need in the related website we are going to design.

IDEATION

After we finish with the whole research, we analyzing all the data that we got from out target audience, and we use KANO MODEL and found that what is the related item and things that we need to do.

 

By going through the chart, we know what we need to handle and include in the site, we also put in into prioritize and state the sitemap of the website.

DESIGN MOOD & TONE

  • Engaging: Our design approach seeks to captivate secondary students by incorporating visually appealing elements. With vibrant colors, modern layouts, and captivating illustrations, we aim to create an enticing and visually stimulating platform that encourages exploration.

  • Student-Centric: To resonate with our target audience, the design will prioritize a student-focused approach. We will tailor content, language, and visuals to align with the preferences and needs of secondary students, ensuring relatability and accessibility.

  • Credible and Polished: While enhancing attractiveness and student-friendliness, the website will maintain a polished and professional appearance. It will convey trustworthiness and authority, providing accurate and dependable information about overseas study opportunities.

By achieving this blend of engagement, student-centeredness, and professionalism, our goal is to establish the website as a valuable and reputable resource for secondary students planning their overseas study journeys.

When crafting the landing page, we meticulously curate the elements sourced from the site. We prioritize showcasing the elements that align with our users’ primary concerns, ensuring they take center stage on the landing page.

Additionally, we refine the search engine on the landing page, focusing on the elements that matter most to our users. We create an intuitive and user-friendly search bar, implementing logic that simplifies the search process for our target audience.

DESIGN INTERFACE – Search Result Page & University Profile

In designing the search result page, we have carefully devised a logic and mechanism to present information based on insights gleaned from user interviews and workshops. Our goal is to provide users with a seamless and intuitive experience, ensuring that the displayed content aligns with their preferences and needs.
